Parched

Here is a collection of mixed media collages inspired by my process to create a xeriscape garden during a drought while I was living in California. I had to contemplate my choices for my environmental footprint beyond the decorative functions. My research into replacing grass suggested I provide the resources for pollinators, birds, insects, and worms in my yard while saving water. This art series guided my work in a sustainable collage class at UC Berkeley’s Extension. It still impacts the artwork I do today.

Mixed media materials include reclaimed organic material, paper, charcoal, rocks, glue, frottage, recycled paint, recycled books, and recycled packages from my kitchen.

Various sizes. Not for sale. 2021-23.

One of the original butterfly xeriscape gardens at my house in Castro, Valley, CA, where I took out the grass during a drought.
